When we think about creating any SSIS package, after we open the SQL server data tools or Business Intelligence development studio we will landed into SSIS designer window.
As you can see SSIS designer contains many tabs at the top. Work will always start with Control Flow. In control flow we add different kind of tasks to achieve different functionalities. One of those task is Data Flow Task which will let us define our ETL Process.
Just take Data Flow task from toolbox and drag into the Control Flow tab area. Now double click the task and it will take us to Data Flow tab.
What all components we can add in Data Flow Tab?
There are three types of components which we can add in Data Flow tab.
Sources – Let us define the source repository from which data is going to be fetched.
Transformations – Let us convert or modify the data retrieved from source as per business requirement.
Designations – let us define the destination repository where data will be transferred.
What will be used in Data Flow tab to show the Flow of data?
We use the green arrow coming out of source and transformation components. This green arrow is termed as Data Flow Path.
